Sere: The Minimal Launcher ยท Effective 30 September 2026
Sere is a home-screen launcher for Android. Everything it knows about you and your apps stays on your phone. It has no account, no ads, no analytics and no tracking. It connects to the internet for two things only: to download app settings from Google Firebase, and to let Google Play offer app updates. Neither involves your apps, your usage or anything you type.
What Sere uses on your phone
- Your list of installed apps. Sere reads it to show your apps on the home screen and in the app list. The list stays on your phone.
- Your settings. Favorites, hidden apps, renamed apps, folders, blocked apps and their end times, reminder choices, theme and font. These are saved in Sere's private storage on your phone.
- App usage time (optional). If you grant Usage access, Sere reads how long you used each app over the last 7 days to show it on the Block screen, and checks which app is open so an in-app time reminder only fires while you are still in that app. This is read on demand and is not stored or sent anywhere. You can revoke Usage access at any time in Android Settings.
- Notifications (optional). Used only to show the in-app time reminders you switch on. They are created on your phone.
What Sere sends over the internet
- App settings (Firebase Remote Config). Sere periodically downloads a few settings from Google Firebase, such as whether to offer an update. To deliver them, Firebase receives a random installation ID generated for this copy of Sere, along with technical details such as the app version, Android version, language, country and time zone. It does not receive your name, your installed apps, your usage or your Sere settings. This is processed by Google under the Firebase privacy and security terms.
- App updates (Google Play). Sere asks the Google Play Store on your phone whether a newer version exists, and Play handles any download. This is covered by Google Play's own terms.
What Sere does not do
- It does not sell or share personal data.
- It does not send your installed apps, usage, favorites or other settings off your phone.
- It does not use advertising IDs, analytics or crash-reporting services.
- It does not require an account or sign-in.
Device backup
If you have Android's device backup turned on, Android may include Sere's settings in your backup so they can be restored on a new phone. That backup is handled by Google under your Google account, not by us, and you can turn it off in Android Settings.
Removing your data
Everything Sere stores is on your phone. Clearing Sere's storage in Android Settings, or uninstalling Sere, deletes it and its Firebase installation ID; a new ID is created if you use Sere again.
Children
Sere is not directed at children.
Changes
If a future version of Sere adds features that handle data differently, such as purchases or syncing, this policy will be updated before that version is released, and the date above will change.
